Mischief is never managed, at least in the Pottermore World.

So, I admit. I got into Pottermore a long time ago. And I'm just now getting around to writing this. I'm sorry. I'm only human.

If you want to discover all the magic yourself, leave now. If you can't wait for find out everything and don't care how you figure out, read on fellow Potterheads.

First impressions

First off… I almost deleted the welcome email. My cousin slaved over the computer for hours for days to get the emails for us. I didn't even get in on my own accord. But hey, I got in. (Not that I don't appreciate what she did, all I'm saying is, I would have taken the easy way out and just waited till it opened to the public)

So anyways, I cried when I got the email. It was almost like a real Hogwarts acceptance letter. It was wonderful. I quickly confirmed that I was a real person and waited again until I was told I could enter the site officially. I raced through the chapters, picking up little things along the way, and shopping at Diagon Alley to be given a wand… Here's the breakdown and meaning of mine:

Redwood (rare)

Phoenix feather core (also rare)

14 ½ inches

Solid

And you finally, FINALLY get sorted.

You answer a series of questions to determine your house. No random picking here, thankfully. I was hoping for my houses, Gryffindor or Hufflepuff (what the h377 is a hufflepuff? For those of you who followed the advice of my last post). I was sorted into Hufflepuff.

You get a letter from your head of house telling you about your house, background and various other things. Then, you are free to search the other chapters.

Throughout the chapters, you can do various activities such as creating potions and searching the scenes for extras on characters, items and chapters.

All in all, this is the next best feeling to reading a brand new Harry Potter book, watching a midnight premier of drinking a warm, frothy batch of Butterbeer- it makes you feel warm and whole inside.

The breakdown:

Pros:

  1. Learning new and exciting extras about the Harry Potter world.
  2. Getting your very own, personal wand
  3. Being sorted by J.K. Rowling herself
  4. Connecting with Potterheads across the world.

Cons:

  1. A lot of people have complained that there is no back ground noise… Solution: play the soundtrack on itunes or YouTube
  2. There are not a lot of things to do in most chapters/scenes
  3. There are a few glitches
  4. Some things are unclear as to how to do them/ how they work

Final thought:

All in all, Pottermore is just what us depressed Potterheads need- another Potter outlet. I understand that the glitches will be smoothed out and that everything will be wonderful for the grand opening in 2012.

A Very potter Musical...

This past week, my cousin snet me a link to something I think that changed my life. Not so much in the Harry Potter life changinf epicness, but close to that. A Very potter Muscial. Review. It was roll on the floor, peeing your pants, years rolling down your eyes, hiccups for the rest of your life funny. The great thing is, it poked fun at Harry Potter in a way that fans can appriciate. The best example? A Voldy-Quirrel-Belatrix love triangle. It's been written hundreds, if not thousands of times. And it worked. And Malfoy had a Crush on Hermione. Again, it's been written thousands of times. And the thing that gets me every time? Ron. Joey Richter was amazing. And so was the writng for Ron. He always had some sort of snack. And he was angsty. And was painted as the guy that's just always there, useless. And just.so.funny. There were power balads, jazz numbers, even a tap number by Joe Walker a.k.a Voldemort, who made Voldemort forever sexy in my mind. The musical had a rawness about it. It wasn't like any other show I've ever seen before. It was so much diffrent. And that's what makes it even better. And the singing. For any theater nerd like me, I rejoiced at the singing. Not only was it funny and well writtem but it was musically amazing. Let's call this play, A Very Potter Triple Threat. I haven't seen the sequel, but I plan to take a chunk out of my day to watch it all by myself, so I can revel in the Harry Potter epicness all over again. Bits and pieces. Stars: 5/5 Rating: PG-13 for sexual refrences, swearing and adult humor. Who should watch this? Everyone who is anyone. It has some spoilers for both the books an movies, so be wary if you don't want to ruin anything. Cast. HARRY – Darren Criss RON – Joey Richter HERMIONE – Bonnie Gruesen VOLDEMORT – Joe Walker QUIRREL – Brian Rosenthal DRACO – Lauren Lopez DUMBLEDORE – Dylan Saunders SNAPE – Joe Moses GINNY – Jamie-Lyn Beatty GOYLE/RUMBLEROAR – Jim Povolo NEVILLE – Richard Campbell CHO CHANG – Devin Lytle LAVENDER BROWN – Sango Tajima CRABBE – Julia Albain CEDRIC – Tyler Brunsman BELLATRIX – Britney Coleman MOLLY WEASLEY – Lily Marks

What Harry Potter taught me...

I grew up with Harry Potter. Literally. When the idea first poped into J.K. Rowling's head, I wasn't even born. When the first book came out, I was 2. When the first movie was being produced, I was 4. When I discovered the wonderful world of Harry Potter, I was 8 or 9. And by it's ending, I am now 14. Ten happy years later, here I am, celebrating one of the greatest franchises in the world. Harry Potter has taught me many important values and lessons and that is what I want to reflect on today.
  1. There is no definate line of Good and Evil. People cannot be purely good or purely evil. They mush have both in order to be human. They may loose one side of them , but each of us has that decision.
  2. Bravery may as well be one of the greatest traits in a person. If one is brave, so much more can result from that.
  3. If you put your mind to something, you can achive it.
  4. Anyone has the ability to become anything that they want.
  5. There is always magic in the world, you just have to look for it.
  6. If you surround yourself with good friends, you will be the happiest person alive.
  7. Sometimes, things may not be clear, but in the end, it will all reveal itself to you.

So let's raise our Butterbeer mugs to a franchise that has raised a generation, taught values and given countless number of people something to hope for, a small white envelope adressed to them, giving them acceptance to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

All Nerded Out

Seeing as this is the last moment that I will ever have to dress up for a Harry Potter midnight showing, I decided I would go all out and dress up wild and crazy as my favorite character. So here are my favorite parts of the outfit... So this is an overview of the outfit, without many accessories. I would never waer this together but I really love them seperate. It really embodies Luna in the fact that it may not seem to go together but it really does. And it's super comfy!
So the dress is a loose dark purple dress with floral detailing on the top and bottom. I bought it at Marshalls for around $20.
I love these Earrings. I got them at Claires for $10 and they have a matching necklace...
So I had to buy the Luna glasses from the Harry Potter (warner Brothers) shop! They were something like 14 dollars plus shipping and handling...
So I ran out of time to order a wand so what did I do? I went out into my backyard and found a stick, hey whatever works! Luna is always walking around with her Quibbler, so made my own editions! I wrote all of the articles and printed 10 copies out to carry around...
So Luna finds her converse hanging from Hogwarts' ceilin so of course I had to incorporate that into the outfit! I bought these a while back at Target for around $50.

Midnight Tips

For all of you mega fans out there who are venturingout on July 14th to see a movie on July 15th, here are a few tips form a Midnight showing veteran....
  1. Buy tickets in advance. That way, you're garanteed a spot in the theater...
  2. While in line waiting to get into the theater, drink a caffinated drink. That way, when you do get into the theater and are waiting for the movie to start, you will have plenty of energy
  3. When the movie starts, drink another cafinated drink of two to get you through the movie.
  4. Arrive to your movie theater no later that 10:30, that way you will be in a good spot in line and will get a good seat. Most theaters open around 10:30 or 11:00 depending on the volume of people they will have to seat.
  5. Bring things to entertain yourself (cards, video games, an iPod, a book) so you won't get bored.
  6. Make sure you will be comfortable. If you are wearing a costume, make sure that you will be able to sit and still be comfortable. You may even want to bring a blanket and pillow if you so desire.
  7. Pick seats wisely. Some theaters may give out t-shirts to people and it is mostly to people closest to the "ground floor" where you walk in.
  8. Make sure to have muncies on hand or money to buy popcorn or sweets from the "trolley" (concession stand)
  9. Be ready to see some crazy fans. Ususally the biggest fans go to midnight showings so be ready to get loud, crazy and have some fun!
  10. Take a nap before you leave. You will thank yourself later when it is 3/4 AM and you are just leaving the theater.

So have fun everyone! I hope that you enjoy the show! Remember, it is a very long and fun night so go in with an open mind and be ready to have lots of fun!

Do Wizards learn Math?

Me being me, I was reading my book late at night thinking to myself, do wizards learn math? Think about it, most wizards grow up in a widarding family where it is probably garantueed that you will be accepted into Hogwarts. For thoes children who grew up in Muggle families, they probably attened a school before Hogwarts, because they did not know that they were widards or witches. But think about it, don't even widards need to know how to read and write and do simple math? Is this merely taught at home untill the pupil is 11? Or do magical families send children to schools until their 11th birthday? It might come down to this, most young wizards cannot control their magical powers. Think about the Weasley twins. They could terrorize everyone in the school uncontrolably. My best guess is that parents would teach their children how to read and write and when their letter arrives, ship them off, thankful that their children are wizards.

What house?

Each house in Hogwarts Stands for something different....

Gryffindor values bravery, daring, nerve, and chivalry. Its emblematic animal is the lion and its colours are scarlet and gold. Minerva McGonagall is the most recent Head of Gryffindor. Sir Nicholas de Mimsy-Porpington aka Nearly Headless Nick is the house ghost. The founder of the house is Godric Gryffindor. Gryffindor corresponds to the element of Fire. The common room is located in one of the highest towers at Hogwarts, the entrance is situated on the seventh floor in the east wing of the castle and is guarded by a portrait of The Fat Lady. She permits entrance if given the correct password which is changed numerous times throughout the school year.

Hufflepuff, founded by Helga Hufflepuff, is the most inclusive among the four houses, valuing hard work, patience, loyalty, and fair play rather than a particular aptitude in its members. Its emblematic animal is the badger, and Black and Gold are its colours. Pomona Sprout is the Head of Hufflepuff. The Fat Friar is its ghost. Hufflepuff corresponds roughly to the element of earth. The Hufflepuff Dormitories and common room are located somewhere in the basement, near the castle's kitchens.

Ravenclaw values intelligence, knowledge, and wit. Its emblematic animal is the eagle, and its colours are blue and bronze. The Ravenclaw Head of House in the 1990s was Filius Flitwick. The ghost of Ravenclaw is the Grey Lady, who was the daughter of Rowena Ravenclaw, the house's founder. Ravenclaw corresponds roughly to the element of air. The Ravenclaw common room and dormitories are located in a tower on the west side of the castle. Ravenclaw students must answer a riddle as opposed to giving a password to enter their dormitories

Slytherin house values ambition, cunning and resourcefulness and was founded by Salazar Slytherin. Its emblematic animal is the serpent, and its colours are green and silver. Professor Horace Slughorn was the Head of Slytherin during the 1997–1998 school year, replacing Severus Snape, who as well, replaced Slughorn when he retired for the first time several years ago. The Bloody Baron is the house ghost. Slytherin corresponds roughly to the element of water. The Slytherin Dormitories and common room are reached through a bare stone wall in the Dungeons. The Slytherin common room is a long, low underground room (probably under the Hogwarts lake, thus Slytherin house's affiliation with water) with rough stone walls and round greenish lamps hanging from the ceiling.

So which house would I choose? Based on my personality, I think I would be placed in Ravenclaw, becayse I am very knowldegeable, but I would love to be in Gryfendor, for obvious reasons. So which house would you be in?

where's My Letter?

Every Harry Potter fan wonders why they didn’t get heir letter. Some, who fall off the bandwagon, much like with Santa Clause, claim that Hogwarts is not real. Some say that their letter just got lost. And I’m going to step out of the little fantasy world I live in on this blog and be blunt. I know Harry Potter may not exist but I like to think that struggles like his do. I’d like to think that people must struggle with the evil vs. good concept all the time. I’d like to think that there are people out there like the witches and wizards of Hogwarts. And who knows? Maybe there are. I would love to live in a place like Hogwarts-magical or not. The people there share one simple string in common; they are there because of how special they are. They share friendships, triumphs and failures. I would love to meet someone like George or Fred, funny and charming all the time. Maybe someone like Collin Creevy, sometimes overbearing but he will take a bullet-er, spell for you. Maybe my best friend would be Hermionie, she’s smart and yet still has her wits about her. And she grows up to beautiful. Maybe I would have a best guy friend (maybe a boyfriend) like Ron. He’s practical. He has a pretty good sense of right and wrong. And he makes mistakes, and admits to them. Maybe another friend in my circle would be Harry. He would be a good person to help me when I’m up against something bigger than me. He would help me out whenever I need it. And he would get into shenanigans with me to. I might have a “loony” friend like Luna, she can be a good friend that stands by you when you need her most, and she has a different view of the world, which can be good for problem solving. Maybe I’ll know someone like Neville, who may not appear to be very smart, but turn out to be amazing at something that I have no clue about. Maybe I’ll know someone like Ginny, who is faithful and knows how to take life with a dash of salt and sometimes sugar. She would be a good best friend. Now that I think about it, I know many people like the ones I listed above. I know a Luna and a Ginny. I know a Harry and a Hermionie and a Ron. I know a Collin and a George. I can conclude that Hogwarts is not just simply a place; it is a personification of the world. It has evil and it has good. It has friends and triumphs. But it also has fears and failures. It has all of the things that it takes to live. So don’t sit around wishing and wanting your letter to Hogwarts, because you may just find that Hogwarts is all around you.

If I had the Reserection Stone...

If I had the Resurrection Stone.. If were to ever happen upon the Resurrection Stone, here are 7 people that I would bring back and why.

  1. Lily and James Potter - They didn't deserve to die and I would love to learn more about them.
  2. Dumbledore- I'm iffy on this one. One one hand, he needs to be around. But on the other, he would die sooner than anyone else I would bring back, he's old!
  3. Sirius Black- Okay, if I can't have the Potters, I atlest want Sirius for Harry.
  4. Lupin and Tonks- I don't want little Teddy to have to grow up without his parents.
  5. Luna's Mom- It would have been cool to see if Luna got any traits from her.
  6. Belatrix LeStrange. Ah yes. The woman we all love to hate. For some reason, I feel sad that she died. I have no clue why.
  7. Hedwig- I know, I know, He's not a person but he and Harry are BFF's,they need to be together forever!
